Here are five ways to get the attention of your audience when you begin a presentation or a paper. You should almost never start out the paper with your exact main idea. You want to get the audience’s attention first. In order to do that, you need to “hook” them by using a few different methods. I have come up with a handy acronym to represent those possible hooks. It is called FIQSO, and you can see it demonstrated in the video below.
